Magic of the Moment

The Magic of the Moment.
This was the theme my photography students were challenged with for an upcoming contest.  At first they wanted to create photographs in the direction of a literal magic trick or something to do with Chris Angel.
As I walked them through what this prompt meant in symbolic terms, I was brought to my own realization about how many moments of magic are in a wedding day.  It also hit me that we are surrounded by moments of magic
daily in our own lives.
According to Albert Einstein
“There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as everything is a miracle.”

Yesterday has gone, tomorrow has not yet been, today is present. In other words, the last second has gone, the next second has not come, so this moment is the second that is.

The magic of the moment is happening right now!

Embracing the magic of the moment is never more evident then when you watch a child. Be it the taste of an ice cream cone, the cool breeze that makes their arm hairs stand on end or noticing that the  clouds look like a dinosaur, little children embrace the magical moments in their daily.  This magic is something that we seem to loose as adults, only to realize it on major milestones.  We go from children who have these moments 4, 5, 10 times a day to people who have them once a year if they are lucky.  Does this have to happen?  I believe not.

We pause here with our story to embrace this magical moment of Megan and Will on their wedding day.  One of the most magical moments on a wedding day is the first time the groom sees his beautiful bride.  The look of awe in his face is a priceless moment which will be forever etched in each others memories.  This was their moment.  We share and celebrate with them of their magical day through these images.

Having 3 little boys under the age of seven has taught me this lesson more profoundly than anything else has. As I have grown older I have lost much of the magic in my life. Oh sure, I take in the magic of the major events in my adult life (my wedding, the birth of my children, Kaleb’s first day of school) but I had lost much of the daily moments of magic.

Having my life filled with children has helped me return to this state.  As I see them filled with glee over the smallest details in life, I find myself caught up in their magic.  I am happier now enjoying these simple moments than I was trying to create larger than life events as an adult.

The photography: the way I attempt to help couples, families and mammas to capture those magical moments in life.
Megan and Will, may your wedding day be the start of many magical moments.  Keep that spirit alive in your daily lives.
Thank you for sharing your magically day with me.  I am honored to have been apart of it!

Thank you also to the Sepulveda Home for the amazing reception.
