Fairy Facts

A few posts back I was able to take pictures of a little Pirate and decided to include a vocabulary lesson on Pirate words.
For this post, I thought I would once again add a little bit of information to my photos.  This time you will be enlightened with Facts about Fairies.
Faeries are a race of small magical beings. They are usually invisible to most of us, but many mortals do have the gift to see them. Faeries have many human qualities: They have skills and talents; they have friends and family; they love and have desires.
The best places to find fairies are in the “tween places” like forks in the road, where streams divide or border hedges; the best time to find them is in the “tween times” like dusk or dawn.
Fairies magical powers, can include the ability to change the seasons, weather, or other aspects of nature.
Our little fae is all ready for the rain that she forsees coming.
The word Fairy can be spelled a number of ways, Fairy, Faerie, Faery, or Fae.
Fairies are said to appear most frequently on the high days of the Celtic calendar. Beltane (May Eve), when they fight; Midsummer Eve, when they celebrate; and Samhain (November Eve) when they dance with ghosts and lament the coming of winter.
Faeries love natural foods, nothing artificial or junky. Pixie pears and mallow fruits are among their favorites.
Faeries enjoy music and dancing and love to play tricks and brawl with each other.
The Irish believe that the fairies are a previously conquered society, the Tuatha De Danaan (People of the Goddess Dana), who were driven into hiding when the Celts invaded Ireland. The Pagan gods of the Tuatha, skilled in building and magic, went underground to live in the tombs and mounds they had built. Hidden from sight, they grew smaller in the popular imagination until they turned into fairies.
In Wales, fairies are thought to be a race of invisible spiritual beings living in a world of their own. Some people also believe that fairies were originally local gods or nature spirits that dwindled in majesty and size over time.

Fairies move swiftly and can become invisible blending into the woods.
Fairies live all over the world. (I found this one in the hidden woods of Southern Califronia).

Fairies thrive in nature. They particularly enjoy flowers in a garden. They can also be found where streams divide, near ponds, at water fountains, or even by house plants. They are much more prevalent in the country than they are in the city. However, even in the city, they can be found in parks.

Fairies are rarely seen by humans. There are a few tricks one can use in order to see them…………..
Legend says that if you pick a four leaf clover and lie quietly in a field, you will soon be surrounded with dancing fairies.

Fairies adore shiny objects. Try placing some brightly colored, shiny stones in the yard. They also love pennies. Another item fairies enjoy are crystals. Hang some crystals off branches of the tree. In addition, tie colorful ribbons around trees.

If you ever see a fairy, consider yourself lucky.
I was fortunate enough to not only see this little fae, but to be able to capture her in photos.
